Fodor's Review:

Built as a roadside motor court in 1941, this inn with red-tile roofs brings a touch of Southwestern style to an otherwise lackluster and somewhat noisy location at the junction of two main highways. It's across from two vineyards and is the closest lodging to Infineon Raceway, a major car and motorcycle racetrack. Though the rooms, which have queen- or king-size beds, are rather small, a good breakfast in a pleasant tiled room, a convenient location, and a modest price make it a fine home base for those who'd rather spend their money elsewhere. The inn sometimes closes for a few weeks during slow season, so check the schedule if you're booking a room in December or January.

Overall this place took me by surprise in the most wonderful way. I booked a room here last minute before an Indy Race at Infenion when I was looking for a location that was both close to the track and close to vineyards, downtown Sonoma, etc. It had very friendly service, beautiful flowers, statues, fountains, etc. all around, a sparkling pool area, the best continental breakfast I've ever had, and more. My room was clean and cozy and parking was easy and free. I don't know what Suzanne's post below is referring to-- I could not hear the "traffic" of the intersection hardly at all. They designed it well so that once you drive through the gate, you're removed from the two roads in terms of sound and sight. This place is truly a hidden gem in the wine country and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon it- I will definitely be staying there again!

If you're looking for the ultimate Sonoma experience of good wine, good humor and big human heart, this hotel is exactly what you're looking for. It is very comfortable, cozy and with beautiful art work everywhere. It feels like you arrived at a place you never want to leave again. It feels like home. It has a beautiful garden, swimming pool and beautiful dining area. It is not fancy and intimidating. Its style is very down to earth with a touch of human heart. It is conveniently located close to several wineries and not too far of a drive to downtown square in Sonoma.

We were on a bicycle trip with a friend of mine and ended up in this hotel by a mere coincidence. After our adventures of flat tires, broken pumps, hitchhiking and full hotels, we were greeted with a great hospitality, sense of humor, big smile and a good heart of the hotel owner. The experience we had in this hotel was definitely the most amazing one from the whole trip (second are the downhill rides on California hills).

Next time I'm in Sonoma, I'm definitely going back to Vineyard Inn, and would recommend it to anyone who is tired of commercial, cold hotels and appreciates the human touch. Our Sonoma experience would have not been the same.

Thank you for everything.

This hotel is at the crossroads of two very busy highways, very noisy. It is not nice looking in any way shape or form. I would only stay here if everything else in the area were booked. I had to post this because I just drove by and saw a Fodor's sign recommending it and was taken by surprise!

We made a reservation over the phone and when we arrived, the gates were closed and no one was at the hotel. We called the same number we used to make the reservations, the same number listed on their sign under the "vacancy" message, and no one answered. Luckily we were traveling mid-week in the off-season and we could find another hotel after this one left us high and dry.

Popular destinations aren’t cheap, but you’ll get a lot of value at the Vineyard Inn Hotel.
We booked several rooms and suites for a weekend wedding reception and all met our needs exactly. The proprietor was gracious, courteous and extremely helpful to our entire family, from our 95-year-old parents to our 8-year-old granddaughter. His hospitality is beyond compare.
Do the California Wine Country right – and stay in the best kept secret in the Sonoma area. Luckily, we booked our rooms three months in advance. It has an ole European flair and charm; it’s quiet, cozy and private, with a better continental breakfast than any hotel chain provides. From hot coffee, tea and cold milk to fresh croissants, local fruit and many other selections, our eclectic dietary needs were exceeded.
I would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends and will definitely stay again. If you don’t enjoy this hotel, you’re not ready for “popular” destinations.
Give Mardo our regards.
