St. Supéry

St. Supéry Review

Your instinct may be to enter the beautifully restored 1882 Queen Anne Victorian at St. Supéry looking for the tasting room; actually the wines are being poured in the building behind it, a bland, unappealing, officelike structure. But you'll likely forgive the atmospheric lapse once you taste their fine sauvignon blancs, merlots, and chardonnays, as well as a couple of unusual wines that are made primarily of either cabernet franc or petit verdot, both of which are usually used for blending with cabernet sauvignon. An excellent, free self-guided tour also allows you a peek at the barrel and fermentation rooms, as well as a gallery of rotating art exhibits. At the "Smell-a-Vision" station you can test your ability to identify different smells that might be present in wine, and a small demonstration vineyard allows you to see the differences between different types of vines and even taste the grapes when they're in season.
