El Minuto Café
El Minuto Café Review
Popular with local families and the business crowd at lunch, this bustling restaurant is in Tucson's Barrio Historico neighborhood and open until midnight Friday and Saturday and until 10 pm the rest of the week. For more than 50 years El Minuto has served topopo salads (a crispy tortilla shell heaped with beans, guacamole, and many other ingredients), huge burritos, and green-corn tamales (in season) made just right. The spicy menudo (tripe soup) is reputed to be a great hangover remedy.

I used my Fodor's guide and brought a large group to the restaurant. It appeared to be on a not so nice downtown corner, but I went in with an open mind thinking perhaps it is a hidden gem. I ordered a carne asada burro enchilada style, the meat was tough, and so were the tortillas. When I ordered churros for dessert to share they brought me an appetizer by mistake. The bowls of chips they bring to the table are very small and they charge after the first one. Overall, I was greatly disappointed, and I think Fodor's should be embarassed to even have this restaurant in their guide.

The customer service here is HORRIBLE. The night "Manager" on thursdays is a TOTAL jerk and should be FIRED. He could not manage the crowd of people coming, people were seated and waited over an hour for food. Many people left without eating due to the wait. I saw one girl go to the kitchen and get her own pitcher of iced tea since no waiters were coming around. One group did not pay because they said the food was horrible. We had our drinks and chips, then we left after waiting an hour. The waiter explained the cooks lost our order. After complaining to the so called manager, he basically told whoever wasnt going to pay, "if you dont like it , leave." So we did and will never return to this place again! The menu is overpriced and the drinks are watered down. If your new to tucson and want a good place to eat, check out Guillermos (awsome red chili chimichangas) or El Minidito. Cheaper, better food, and excellent service.
