Fodor's Review

Popular with business travelers and families, this sprawling resort has grand views of the Santa Catalina Mountains above and the city below. It specializes in relaxation, with an emphasis on fun: the huge pool complex has an impressively long waterslide, as well as a swim-up bar and grill for those who can't bear to leave the water. Kids' programs, including weekly "dive-in movies," make for a vacation the whole family can enjoy. The Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa is on-site.

Yawn...this places looks tired! Needs renovation.

We got a rather unenthusiastic welcome but got checked in w/out incident. I'd requested room w/ view on a high floor, not realizing that most of the bldgs. were 2 story. Got upper floor {labeled a Preferred Guest floor, of which we are members} view was of the tennis courts. Buildings have outside corridors, if this is of a concern to you. They're spread out & it looked pretty isolated at night. The room was ok, but was quite worn and had a tired

look to it. The bell person said they were getting ready to do a multi-million dollar update. The bathroom was nice, good amenities & towels and a magnifying mirror. Towels were small and on the thin side, but there were 4 of each size. Bed was comfortable and was triple sheeted. There was 1 free bottle of water for Preferred Guests and there were wine glasses on top of the bar area. There was a mini fridge filled with assorted things. I asked bell person if we could put a small bottle of milk in it without setting off the $ counter and he said we could. We did and had no problem at check out despite finding a message in hotel info book saying that mini-bar fridge was not to be used for personal items. We went down to the pool to cool off and the area was nice&lots of pools and hot tubs. They had adults only pool and hot tub and cool tub which was nice. Next morning was spent at pool. The pool area was really nice&had lots of trees for shade and made it look a bit tropical, not desert like. The biggest complaint was the Resort Fee which I knew about before we checked in {we got a really good rate, so I figured it cancelled out}. They charged $11 a day for: free local calls, free USA today newspaper, the first 2 pages of incoming fax @ business center and other absurd things. I would rather have the rate upped $11 than see what this fee included.

Pricey but nice

We stayed at a suite that was just spectacular. It felt like you were in someones home. The views were to die for and the furnishings were really nice. The only negative was the fireplace which is supposed to be wood burning but when you ask for wood you get 1 fire log. I asked for another but they told me that I had not burned the one I had for 3 hours, a bit on the anal side!

Are you kidding me??? Yuck!

What a disappointment the Westin was! Wish I had read the reviews in TripAdvisor.com before going. Very understaffed - we waited a long time to get checked in, and even longer to get a bellman to take us to our room. It was freezing cold in the lobby and there was a noisy, boisterous sports party going on (the 2nd time we've encountered that here). The lobby dining room's food was pretty good and so was the service. Our room had stained drapes,

the light fixture in the corridor wasn't working (very dark out there), and a freezing wind blew through the ill-hung door. No way would we go here again.

This Westin is Heavenly

Stayed here twice---coming and going to California from Texas---and found this to be a nice treat. We only wish we had planned to spend more time at the resort and plan to do so again in the future. The rooms were spacious (our room by the pool was slightly larger than our one near the parking lot), clean, with nice enough bathrooms. The seperate tub and shower are nice and the fact that the resort is over 16 years old doesn't really show. The

pool was nice, the swim-up bar was a bonus, and the water slide was a blast for all of us. We want to spend more time there in the future. Oh yes, and we got an awesome rate through the Westin website.

Nice family vacation.

We spent 5 days here in March and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a suite to have extra room with our 2 year old and the room, bed, crib and showers were very nice. Several pools and plenty of lounge chairs. Teh childrens lounge takes children as young as six months, which can provide a nice escape for mom and dad. Service could have been a bit better, we had reserved a crib, but for some reason had to wait close to an hour for it, even

with several phone calls complaining about it.
