When to Go

Fall, winter, and spring in Tucson are mild with little rainfall, making the Tucson area wonderful for outdoor sports. The city has miles of bike paths (shared by joggers and walkers) and plenty of open spaces with memorable desert views, and some of the best golf courses in the country. Hikers enjoy the desert trails in Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon, and Catalina State Park -- all within 20 minutes of central Tucson; in summer, there are cooler treks in nearby mountain ranges (Mt. Lemmon to the north and Madera Canyon to the south). Equestrians can find scenic trails at one of the many area stables or dude ranches.
