Fodor's Expert Review Tombstone Western Heritage Museum

Aficionados of the Old West have most likely seen the photograph of Billy Clanton in his coffin, which was taken after his demise at the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral. But Steve Elliott, owner of the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, offers another glimpse of this cowboy—one with his eyes wide open. The 5-by-7-inch black-and-white photograph, taken by C. S. Fly in the 1880s, shows the Clantons, the McLaury brothers, and Billy Claiborne all saddled up and ready to ride. According to Elliott, it is the only known photograph of Billy Clanton taken while he was still alive. Other relics of the Old West include 1880s dentist's tools, clay poker chips, historic photographs, vintage firearms, and a stagecoach strongbox.
