Fodor's Review:

Behind the sand-color facade hides a graceful luxury hotel known for impeccable service. The lobby and spacious public rooms are elegantly inviting, decorated with 18th- and 19th-century European paintings and a handsome china collection. Guest rooms and suites are spacious enclaves of luxury with premium mattresses and pillows, Egyptian-cotton sheets, and downy duvets that are even more inviting after the nightly turn-down service, complete with fine chocolate. A conscientious and attentive staff offers impeccable service and the central location means dining, shopping, and entertainment are within strolling distance. Summer packages are creative, fun, and very affordable. Mountain and city vistas can be appreciated from the second-floor terrace, where there is also a heated pool.

ever since the Ritz became part of the Marriott chain, it seems that employees in visible positions such as front desk (Olga and male supervisor with major, bad attitude) and cleaning ladies have taken the attitude that this is their hotel and the guest can be happy to get any service at all. I had to carry my own bags because the porter took 30 minutes to arrive, the check-in was so unfriendly, it was appalling. However, the valet was great and up to the OLD Ritz standards. Although I have been a frequent guest previously, I will no longer choose the Ritz in Phoenix. It is imperative for a hotel of that caliber to have the BEST people at the check-in and front desk because they are setting the tone. Housemaids hanging out together in the small hallways, not greeting guests or getting out of a guest's way, is rude and not acceptable. I was really disappointed and have cancelled my group meeting, we are going to a hotel that treats its frequent guests the way one should treat any human being: with respect. The Biltmore is a better choice.
