Fodor's Review:

No detail was overlooked at this replica of a Parisian bistro, from the zinc-top bar and linen-lined tables topped with butcher paper to the sidewalk café seating and mirrored walls. A Valley local, chef-owner Matt Carter prepares traditional French cuisine almost as if he were a native Frenchman. Bistro classics such as the flatiron steak, cassoulet with duck confit, and the omelet piled high with pommes frites are excellent. Also recommended are the roasted Dungeness crab and mushroom crepes, and the onion soup. The wine list offers a good selection of reasonably priced French wines.

Off night for the previous reviewer? Or did they just fire that waitress? Whatever, Jason was extraordinary for my party, and so was another passing waitress with a gorgeous singing voice and great sense of humor. The food was beyond sublime -- I'm still tasting my duck cassoulet, my one friend's hangar steak, my other friend's skate roulades...my frisee and spinach salad, garnished with a perfectly poached egg, and my one friend's squab and foie gras spectacular...my gianduja and hazelnut mousse...my other friend's tahitian vanilla creme brulee...our table's chateau lagrange medoc...and everybody's pommes aligot...this place is extraordinary. run here, and ask for jason, he's terrific!

With decor reminiscent of a classic French Bistro, Zinc delivered on delicious fare, but fell short with horrendous waitstaff. Remarkably fresh and skillfully prepared, my duck confit sandwich was a delight. The Pommes Frites were crisp and perfectly seasoned. The only reason I would advise against eating at Zinc was the phenomenally rude waitress we had the displeasure of encountering. Perhaps she was a method actress aspiring to duplicate the detached complacency and condescending demeanor typically ascribed to French waiters.
