When to Go

The park is rarely crowded. Weatherwise, the best time to visit is autumn, when nights are chilly but daytime temperatures hover near 70°F. Half of all yearly rain falls between June and August, so it’s a good time to spot blooming wildflowers. The park is least crowded in winter because of cold winds and occasional snow, though daytime temperatures are in the 50s and 60s.

Festivals and Events

National Wildflower Week. Activities include wildflower walks and an interactive wildflower display.

Petrified Forest Park Anniversary. A national monument since 1906 and a national park since 1962, Petrified Forest throws a party for its birthday, with homemade cider, cookies, and cultural demonstrations.
