Getting Here and Around

The nearest major airports are in Phoenix, AZ (259 mi away via U.S. 17 and U.S. 40), and Albuquerque, NM (204 mi distant via U.S. 40). Holbrook, the nearest large town, is roughly 20 mi from either of the park's two entrances on U.S. 40. By train you can take Amtrak to Flagstaff and Winslow (928/774-8679).

Parking is free, and there's ample space at all trailheads, as well as at the visitor center and the museum. The main park road extends 28 mi from the Painted Desert Visitor Center (north entrance) to the Rainbow Forest Museum (south entrance). For park road conditions, call 928/524-6228.
