Fodor's Expert Review Pioneer Museum

Flagstaff Family

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

The Arizona Historical Society operates this museum in a volcanic-rock building constructed in 1908. The structure was Coconino County's first hospital for the poor, and the current displays include one of the depressingly small nurses' rooms, an old iron lung, and a reconstructed doctor's office. Most of the exhibits, however, touch on more cheerful aspects of Flagstaff history—like road signs, farming machinery, and pioneer children's games.

The museum holds folkcraft festivals in the summer, with blacksmiths, weavers, spinners, quilters, and candlemakers. Some of their crafts are sold in the museum's gift shop.
