Encompassing 13.2 million acres, the Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve stretches from one of the tallest peaks in North America, Mt. St. Elias (elevation 18,008 feet), to the ocean. People here have been
living off the land in this region for centuries, and they still do. In the town of McCarthy, you’ll find that residents are accommodating, but also that they’ve chosen to live this far "off the grid" for a reason. Respect their space and they will be warm and welcoming. Limited services are available in McCarthy. Facilities include guest lodges, a B&B, and a restaurant. There's no gas station or post office.
