The dig provides a glimpse into the past of the local First Nations people. Long before Western civilizations developed the Miles Canyon area, the First Nations people used it as a seasonal fish camp. The Yukon Conservation Society conducts free historical nature hikes here that provide the opportunity to experience the surrounding countryside with local naturalists. A bookstore in the society's office specializes in the Yukon's history and wilderness and sells souvenirs, maps, and posters. Check the website or call before you head here; funding cuts have caused some program cutbacks.
