St. Paul Island

St. Paul Island Review

The largest northern fur-seal herd in the world and more than 180 varieties of birds await nature lovers on St. Paul Island. In town you can visit with local residents; about 500 descendants of Aleut-Russians live here now in the shadow of the old but beautifully-cared-for Russian Orthodox church and amid the vestiges of Aleut culture. The local museum shows how the island was once essentially a factory, as the U.S. government controlled sealing, and therefore, the only jobs on the island.
