Railroad Travel

Anchorage is the region's hub, connected by rail and road to major ports in South Central. To the east, you can reach McCarthy and Valdez by an indirect but scenic drive on the Glenn and Richardson highways. The Seward and Sterling highways connect to nearly every town on the Kenai Peninsula. The Alaska Railroad Corporation operates the Alaska Railroad, which runs 470 mi between Seward and Fairbanks via Anchorage. There's daily service between Anchorage and Fairbanks in summer, and in winter there's one round-trip per week. Service to Seward from Anchorage runs every weekend from mid-May to September.
