Fodor's Review

The abandoned Kennecott Mine is one of Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve's main attractions. The open-pit mine is reminiscent of ancient Greek amphitheaters, and the abandoned structures are as impressive as the mountains they stand against. The Kennecott Copper Corporation named the Kennecott Mine after the Kennicott Glacier—theories on the differing spellings range from accidental to intentional misspelling. Nowadays, though, the varied spellings help

to differentiate the manmade landmarks from the natural features.
