Kennicott Glacier Lodge

15 Kennicott Millsite, 5 miles north of McCarthy, Kennicott, Alaska, USA

Perched at the top of a 10-mile dirt road originating in McCarthy, the lodge is an astounding site: its red and white panels and manicured lawns beside the aged and worn Kennecott Mine, the stunning backdrop of snow-crested mountain peaks, the receding glacier splayed out in front. Artifacts and photos of the era when mining was the main order of business adorn the small rooms in this modern timber lodge. Transportation and three daily meals are included. Fresh-baked goods are favorites at the buffet breakfast. Sit-down lunches are provided, best eaten out on the deck overlooking the glacial moraine, or you can request a sack lunch to take with you. Dinner is a "wilderness gourmet" spread served family-style. The front desk can arrange glacier trekking, flightseeing, rafting, and alpine hiking for additional fees. The lodge provides a shuttle from the end of the road in McCarthy.
