By Bus in Inside Passage

Alaska Direct Bus Lines has year-round service connecting Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Skagway. Though it's nearly a 29-hour ride, you can travel Greyhound Lines of Canada from Edmonton to Whitehorse (about $220 for a one-way fare; huge discounts for 7-day and 14-day advance purchase) and make a connection (nondaily) there with Alaska Direct buses to Skagway (a three-hour trip).
