Fodor's Review

Two popular events take place in Dalton City, a gold-rush-town set for the 1991 Disney film White Fang that was relocated to the Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds. The homespun Southeast Alaska State Fair, a four-day event that starts during the last week of July, amuses attendees with a logging show and a fisherman's rodeo, along with live music, rides on a 1920 Herschell-Spillman carousel, local cuisine, Native dancing, and displays of totemic crafts,

art, and photography. Another highly convivial event, the two-day Great Alaska Craft Beer and Homebrew Festival, unfolds in late May. A five-course gourmet brewers' dinner, beer-tasting sessions, a home-brew competition, and live music are among the highlights. Tickets, which sell out quickly, go on sale in early February.
