This not your standard Tex-Mex or Mexican-American fare, but the most authentic Mexican food in town and maybe even in Alaska. Owner Maria Elena Ball befriends everyone, particularly young children. Favorite dishes include lime-marinated fried chicken, chilaquiles (tortilla casserole with mole sauce), and entremesa de queso (melted cheese, jalapeños, and onions with homemade tortillas). Weekday lunch buffets ($10) and Sunday dinner buffets ($12) are popular, and a vegetarian menu is available. The restaurant is several miles south of downtown, so you'll need to drive or catch the city bus.

From 1975 until 1985 this is where we called home. You felt like family with Maria Elana. My mouth still waters thinking about the salsa and mole sauce. I'm from Arizona and lived around the country and there is no better place to eat Mexican food. Period.
