Organic Oasis

Organic Oasis Review

Just across the street from Chilkoot Charlie's, this popular café is part eatery and part community center-event space. The menu offers plenty of healthy (or, at least, healthy-sounding) fare, including fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies, organic sandwiches, espresso drinks, pizza, fresh vegan soups, and tempeh burgers. They bake their own bread and buns. Vegans and vegetarian visitors to Anchorage should put a giant star on Organic's location on the city map. But that doesn't mean omnivores will be left in the cold. The menu also includes buffalo burgers, chicken, salmon, and grilled Buffalo New York strip steaks. There's even organic beer and wine. There's live music many nights each week and free Wi-Fi access anytime. Service can be slow at times. If this place could somehow manage to acquire a more hippie vibe, it'd float to Berkeley unassisted.

My son is a vegetarian and has been since he was 15 years old. He drug my husband and I to this restaurant kicking and screaming. It was great. I am still craving the organic mayo and the bread is to die for. Living in Alaska we are subject to less than favorable veggies and they have done a great job with the produce they have to work with.
