Fodor's Review:

One of Anchorage's culinary stars, Orso ("bear" in Italian), evokes the earthiness of a Tuscan villa. Alaskan touches flavor rustic Mediterranean dishes that include traditional pastas, fresh seafood, and locally famous desserts—most notably a delicious molten chocolate cake. Be sure to ask about the daily specials. If you can't get a table at dinner (reservations are advised), you can select from the same menu at the large bar. Upstairs you'll find a cozier, quieter space.

The atmosphere is nice whether in the bar or restaurant. We've eaten upstairs and down, no preference, both are nice. The service has been okay, no complaints really, but nothing remarkable. Parking can be a challenge downtown, that is frustrating! I've never been disappointed in the food - lunches, bar appetizers, and dinners have all been yummy! The menu selection is good. Prices are a bit on the high side but not too bad given the atmosphere. I certainly enjoy eating here and it's nice for a change of pace but it's not #1 favorite downtown restaurant.

I'm a local and this place is "OK" if you're stuck downtown, but there are much better places to eat in Anchorage. For example, if you like good seafood then Simon and Seafurts (within walking distance) is MUCH better fare at a similar price. Kind of sad that many tourists leave Anchorage thinking this is the best Italian fare Anchorage has to offer. Also, the hosts are pretty snooty, so make sure you have reservations. Otherwise they'll try force you into the bar to buy some drinks while you wait. (This is true even when they have plenty of open tables).
