Canyon City Archaeological Dig

Canyon City Archaeological Dig Review

The Canyon City Archaeological Dig provides a glimpse into the past of the local First Nations people. Long before the area was developed by Western civilizations, the First Nations people used the Miles Canyon area as a seasonal fish camp. The Yukon Conservation Society conducts free tours of the area twice a day on weekdays in summer; it also leads two-hour hikes Tuesday through Saturday in July and August. All the hikes are free and provide a great way to see the surrounding countryside with local naturalists. The society office houses a bookstore on Yukon history and wilderness and sells souvenirs, maps, and posters. Check the website or call before you go out; funding cuts have hurt some of their programs.
