Perched on 85 acres of hilltop 35 minutes north of Victoria, this Mediterranean-style villa complex has breathtaking views over Finlayson Arm and the Gulf Islands. Rooms in the three buildings vary, but all are lavish. Most boast a patio or balcony, a fireplace, and a whirlpool tub. Six especially large suites in the Villa Cielo, set 300 feet up the hill from the main resort, are especially lush, with rich fabrics, silk carpets, dark woods, and sweeping views. The Aerie's restaurant is renowned; culinary tourists flock here for farm and winery tours, mushroom foraging trips, and private cooking classes. Yoga and seaweed treatments are part of the extensive spa menu. Pros: Wonderful views, great restaurant and spa, full range of facilities. Cons: 35 minutes from town, pricey.

The Aerie's Villa Cielo has a peaceful airy atmosphere, and sits above the main resort. Our suite was new, bright, exceptionally clean, with excellent interior decor. Aerie restaurant is outstanding with a serene(airy feel)with new interior and furnishings. It offers, Top of the World Views, of lower Vancouver Island. The Aerie restaurant pianist, Billy Andrusco, is an outstanding talent that adds to the serenity evening dining. Chef Christophe Letard offers the best of food quality and presentations. The Aerie new GM, Patrick Blanch, is very attentive to guest needs. Maria Schuster, founder, is a positive, delightful hostess, and easy to meet. The current Spa is clean, well maintained but small A new Spa is due in 2010. Aerie has an excellent new fitness center. Check with resort staff relative to late fall and winter weather conditions as this resort resides high mountain. A stay to remember and well worth a FIVE STAR COMMENDATION! Charlotte & Elwood Moger
