The centrally located Shelter has a lounge and patio for casual dining and an upstairs fine-dining room; it's popular with locals and visitors. Fare ranges from char-grilled beef burgers and a seared-chicken rice bowl to Pacific halibut and Dungeness crab. Small plates on a coastal theme, such as steamed B.C. mussels and rain-forest greens are also a draw.

We have been visiting Tofino every summer for 3 years and have tried most of the restaurants. Many are overpriced and mediocre, so it was nice to see this new addition to the scene. We were very impressed. The food was, in a nutshell, excellent. Eveyone at our table (5 of us) had a different entre and appetizer, and without going into details, no one was disappointed. Great wine list as well. Ambience is great, on a nice evening a table on the patio (they have gas heaters)has a fantastic view of the harbour.} Service was a bit slow, but the place was packed,so it was forgivable. Overall, I think the best dining experience we have had in Tofino. Go early or be prepared to wait. But the wait was well worth it.
