$$$$, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
The small, lavish Wedgewood has just earned membership to the exclusive Relais & Châteaux Group, and is run by an owner who cares fervently about her guests. The lobby and guest rooms display a flair for old-world Italian luster with original artwork and antiques selected by the proprietor on her European travels. Guest rooms are capacious, and each has a balcony. The four penthouse suites have fireplaces, luxury spa bathrooms, and private garden terraces. All the extra touches are here, too: afternoon ice delivery, dark-out drapes, robes, and a morning newspaper. The turndown service includes homemade cookies and bottled water. The sophisticated Bacchus restaurant and lounge ($$$-$$$$) is in the lobby; it's also a terrific stop for afternoon tea after shopping along Robson Street. The tiny but luxurious on-site spa is very popular -- book ahead for an appointment. Pros: Personalized and attentive service, boutique atmosphere, afternoon tea with flair, great location close to top shops, spa. Cons: Small size means it gets booked quickly.
