In 1945, when the three Shopsowitz brothers came into the business their parents started in 1921, you'd pay 8 for a corned-beef sandwich. Today Shopsy's is a chain (check website for other locations) owned by a food conglomerate, and such a sandwich costs C$6.49. The corned beef, always freshly cooked and firm, is piled on fresh rye bread slathered with mustard; there's nothing like it. Soups are satisfying, salads are huge, barbecue baby-back ribs fall from the bone, and the hot dogs are legendary. There's often a wait at the deli during peak hours.
