To reach Montmorency Falls, take Route 440 (Autoroute Dufferin–Montmorency) east from Québec City approximately 9½ km (6 miles) to the exit for Montmorency Falls. For Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, take Route 440 (Autoroute Dufferin–Montmorency) east from Québec City approximately 23 km (14 miles). To get to Île d'Orléans, take Route 440 (Autoroute Dufferin–Montmorency) northeast. After a drive of about 10 km (6 miles) take the Pont de l'Île d'Orléans (a bridge) to the island. The main road, chemin Royal (Route 368), circles the island, extending 67 km (42 miles) through the island's six villages; the route turns into chemin du Bout de l'Île in Ste-Pétronille.
To get to Charlevoix from Québec City, take Route 440 (Autoroute Dufferin–Montmorency) northeast and then continue past the Côte-de-Beaupré on Route 138. From there you'll be able to branch out for destinations such as Petit-Rivière-St-François or Baie-St-Paul. Though a half hour longer from Québec City, Route 362 between Baie-St-Paul and La Malbaie is more scenic.
Another way to explore the exceptional beauty of the region is to hop aboard the new train of Le Massif Charlevoix, which offers a 7-hour cruise along the shoreline from Parc de la Chute-Montmorency station to La Malbaie and back for C$275, including lunch and dinner.

That said, most people traveling to this region do so by car, making it easy to spend as much or as little time in any given area as desired. However, Québec is in the process of expanding the Route Verte, or the Green Route, a 3,600-km (2,230-mile) network of bike trails in the southern part of the province.
