Fodor's Review

Overlooking Lac Massawippi, with a private beach, this elegant retreat feels rather like a private estate, with many activities, such as tennis, boating, and bicycling, included in the room rate. Built in 1900, the manor was modeled after George Washington's Mount Vernon. Rooms have a mix of antiques and more modern furniture, richly printed fabrics, and lace trimmings; many have fireplaces and private balconies that overlook the lake. Le Hatley restaurant serves excellent

Quebec cuisine: try the Mullard duck breast or the Appalachian venison loin. There's a tasting menu, including wine, for $90. Home-baked scones, clotted cream, jam, and more than 40 teas and infusions are served at the traditional English afternoon tea.

Manoir Hovey Review

My sister had business in Sherbrooke in November 2010. She asked me to join her on the trip because she was staying at Manoir Hovey. The experience was so wonderful, that we are planning another trip back soon. The property is perfectly situated on the lake with so many outdoor amenities and opportunities. The patio at the front of the property provides so many spots for sitting and relaxing and enjoying a view of the lake. Inside, the property

is so warm and cozy. In November, the beautiful stone fireplace was blazing in the sitting room which is a great place to curl up in a comfy chair to read a good book while having a view of the lake through full length french doors. Afternoon tea is a delight served by the fire with fabulous pastries. The service was so nice and friendly. Dinner was wonderful in a dining room with lovely linens, expert service, fabulous food--not too stuffy, willing to converse and explain the menu. Staff spoke both French and English fluently. The rooms are well made with nice linens and great views. This is a wonderful get-away where you can feel unobtrusively pampered. Highly recommended
