Why We Like It

Not surprisingly, the Auberge St-Antoine is part of the exclusive Relaise & Château network, so standards are high. Everything in the property is a notch above. The gym, for example, has a handful of cardio machines in a circle facing an interior garden of three birch trees. Plus, there’s a Finnish sauna and a yoga room. Throughout the hotel there are glass cases displaying 17th and 18th century artifacts discovered during the restoration. We love the history, the comfortable updates, and the restaurant’s celebrated chef.

Fodor's Expert Review

A boutique hotel that incorporates the historic stone walls of a 19th-century battery, wharf and warehouse along with artifacts dating to the 1600s. This family-owned property is the gold standard to Old World charm.

You Should Know Low vacancies means it’s hard to come on a whim. Plan ahead.

Room

Antiques and contemporary pieces fill the bedrooms, some with gas fireplaces, upholstered headboards, large terraces or river views. Everyone gets free WiFi, a Nespresso machine and a “do not disturb” switch by the bed--which is genius. Ask for a river view or courtyard view--they're the very best.

Tip For the most rustic décor, including exposed wooden rafters and dormer windows, book a suite in the Hunt House building. Plus, dogs are welcome in all three of the auberge’s buildings! That’s rare in a property of this elegance.

Bathroom

Yet, that’s a monogrammed bathrobe and slippers. More importantly, those are heated floors and toilet seats. Other treats include big square sinks, dental floss dispensers, a no-fog mirror and epic floor space.

Lobby

Stepping into the impressive entry—with a square opening in the building’s stone façade—the lobby is a chic mix of old and new. There are many fireplaces and low sofas for discrete conversations. Note the existence of an elevator, which is not a given in Lower Town.

Dining

There’s a daily buffet at Panache Restaurant for $23 or a la carte. But Panache isn’t just a place for breakfast. It’s all about fine dining, set among stone walls, reinforced wooden beams and posts. Dinner guests sit on comfy arm chairs or banquettes, all near the four-sided fireplace. Order one of the tasting menus, featuring regional products and recipes.

Getting Around

Located in Lower Town, the auberge is handy to all tourist attractions and historic walks. Underground valet parking at the hotel is $30, but it’s worth it because parking is tough in Lower Town. Park once and walk everywhere. Keep in mind that it’s a 10-minute slog uphill, so leave your high heels at home.

Restaurants

Café du Monde (5-minute walk) is a delightful casual bistro on the same street as the hotel. They serve regional cuisine and local products.

Bars

Still in Lower Town, an Irish pub called Claddagh (15-minute walk) has an impressive assortment of imported beer from the UK, plus local craft beer and British-style fish and chips.
