Laurie Raphaël Restaurant-Atelier-Boutique

Laurie Raphaël Restaurant-Atelier-Boutique Review

Local and regional products are at the heart of fine cuisine here. Among Chef Daniel Vézina's creations are crystallized foie gras with truffle snow, and venison tartare. There's a C$96 seven-course menu dégustation, with wines to complement each course available by the glass (C$60 for wine). If you're seeking adventure, opt for the Chef Chef menu—for C$60 a surprise meal will be delivered to your table. Lunch is C$26. If that's not enough, sign up for a private cooking class. Don't miss the exclusive food and product lines available at the Laurie Raphaël boutique.

This was far and away the best of our 7 upscale Montreal and Quebec City restaurants from our recent visit. After reviewing several attractive ala carte menu choices we decided to go for the "Gourmet Menu," a 10 course excursion into culinary delight. Every course was very good in it's own way, and the presentation was over the top. Of special note was the ninth course, strawberries and ice creams in a bowl over a dish of dry ice. The vapors spilled out of the dish, swirled around on the table, eventually spilling over the table edge. Nearby patrons stopped talking and stared. Then the last course a mound of white chocolate frozen in liquid nitrogen. One tap and it shattered into a zillion pieces.
The whole evening was exciting and wonderful. Yet each course is small enough so that you don't leave stuffed and miserable.
    Just outstanding.

We planned one expensive dinner during our weekend in Quebec City and chose Laurie Raphael based on the member reviews here. We were not disappointed! We started with a glass of champagne, and ordered the chef's three course dinner and the sommellier helped us choose a wine. The service was perfect and the meal one to remember forever.

We opted for the Chef's three-course tasting. Everything was delicious, and the wine-pairings were perfect. The waitress was attentive and well-versed in the food and wine. We highly recommend this restaurant to those that enjoy true culinary artistry. The restaurant has an adjoining shop for anyone that wants to take some branded items home.

This was a perfect meal - we opted for the multicourse chef's choice and were not disappointed with a single dish. Delicious! The only improvement I would suggest was the dessert. That night, they served a type of fruit crepe/ dessert manicotti made with a wrap we could not identify - somewhat gummy in texture and clear. The waiter told us it was agar-agar (?!). It did not live up to the quality of the rest of the meal. We were told the pastry chef was "imaginative" but I think s/he may need to be reined in a bit. Highly recommend the restaurant otherwise!!
