Taxis in Montréal all run on the same rate: $3.15 minimum and C$1.45 per kilometer (½ mi). Taxis are usually easy to hail on the street or find at a rank outside train stations, in shopping areas, and at major hotels, although finding one on a rainy night after the Métro has closed can be difficult. You can see if a taxi is available by checking its white or orange plastic rooftop light; if the panel is lighted, the driver is ready to take passengers. You can also call a dispatcher to send a driver to pick you up at no extra cost (you'll usually have to wait about 15 minutes). Taxis are administered by the Bureau du Taxi et Remorquage, a city agency. If you have a complaint about fares, safety, or cleanliness, phone 514/180-6600.
