Fodor's Expert Review Van Horne

$$$ Outremont Romantic

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The tiny 28-seat restaurant is decorated in neutral tones yet stuns with its choice of imposing and unique art pieces like a collection of colorful Roy Lichtenstein plates or a massive door panel of the Iranian pavilion from Expo 67. The menu is concise with only four appetizers, four main meals, and two dessert choices, but everything on it is quite refined. Ingredient-driven, every dish is created with care using seasonal and local products and placed on the plate like a piece of art. A five-course tasting menu is available for $59. Since seating is limited at this small restaurant, reservations are highly recommended. Vegetarians are always well catered to at Van Horne with one of the four choices a vegetable-focused one prepared with as much care and sophistication as the other dishes.
