Pierre du Calvet AD 1725 Review

Merchant Pierre du Calvet—a notorious republican and Freemason—entertained Benjamin Franklin behind the stone walls of this elegant 18th-century home in Old Montréal, but today it's a B&B luxuriously decorated with Louis XIII and Lous XIV furnishings, Oriental rugs, and dazzling woodwork. (Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was so impressed, he named a main character, Megan Calvet, after this Montreal property.) The flat-screen televisions are appropriately sized (small) to maintain the rooms' unplugged tranquillity and Old World opulence. With its revamped menu, the Filles du Roy restaurant now specializes in organic products and local Québecois cuisine, such as roasted duck, rack of lamb, and smoked veal. The glassed-in garden, filled with flowers and potted plants, is a great place to nibble croissants and fruit salad each morning.
