Avenue Monkland

Fodor's Review:

Somewhere between 1995 and 2000, the five blocks of Monkland running west of avenue Girouard went from drab to trendy so quickly that the word "Monklandization" has entered the Montréal vocabulary as an alternative to gentrification. The strip is lined with cafés and restaurants, as well as a good selection of boutiques specializing in children's and women's clothes, shoes, toys, books, and crafts. The main shopping area begins after a five minute walk from the Ville-Marie Métro station.
