Le Caveau

Le Caveau Review

Hidden among the towers of downtown is this Victorian house where buttery French sauces and creamy desserts have survived the onslaught of nouvelle cuisine. The restaurant takes its name from its warm and comfortable cellar, but if you don't like low ceilings, there's plenty of room upstairs amid the sculptures and paintings on the upper two floors. It feels like a faculty club at a university and, sure enough, there are plenty of McGill professors lunching there every day. Main courses might include calves liver, duck confit, or beef tartare. A flexible children's menu, rare in restaurants of Le Caveau's caliber, is available.
