The huge glass-fronted lobby—completely refurbished in 2007—is usually full of conventioneers and student groups from upscale schools, and in late afternoon the lobby bar fills up quickly with local businesspeople grabbing a drink before heading home to the suburbs. If that's not your idea of a holiday, stay away, but if you don't mind the hubbub, the location is right in the heart of downtown and the blandly decorated rooms are large and airy. Those on higher floors have big windows that overlook the mountain or the St. Lawrence River. Pros : good gym, downtown location, close to the Bell Centre for hockey and concerts; great views from the rooms. Cons : a favorite with bus tours and school groups; no in-hotel access to the Métro
