Auberge de la Fontaine Review

A winner of the city's Prix Ulysse for best three-star hotel, this turn-of-the-20th-century residence overlooks Parc Lafontaine and one of the city's major bicycle trails. Housed in two adjoining old homes, it looks a little staid on the outside, but the interior is what Montrealers would call branché—or just a little zany. One wall of your room might be bare brick, for example, another purple, and the ceiling might be green. But somehow it all works. Some rooms have whirlpool baths, plasma-screen TVs, and a few have private balconies with views of the park. The windows open, too, for fresh air. A copious continental breakfast is served in the dining room, and you are free to use the little ground-floor kitchen to keep snacks in the refrigerator.
