You'd think that crystal chandeliers, 14-foot ceilings, and opulent Second Empire moldings would make the Hôtel XIXe Siècle the exclusive preserve of romantic couples and dowager duchesses, but its location in the middle of the financial district and a block from the city's convention center make it a favorite with business travelers as well. Pros : opulent décor; big-high-ceilinged rooms. Cons : service can be stuffy at times; rue St-Jacques is deadly dull after 6 p.m.

Great location - an easy walk from everything Old Montreal has to offer. We found the hotel to be charming and comfortable. Our room was clean, well kept and pretty with a bright, modern bathroom. The complimentary breakfast was consistently outstanding. The buffet included fresh croissants, fruits, cheeses and small quiches. There were always tables in the gorgeous black and white dining room. We highly recommend this hotel and would gladly stay there again!
