$$$, French, St-Roch
Fodor's Review:
L'Utopie is a spacious spot for a meal. Sixteen-foot ceilings, a solid orange wall, beige and gray chairs, and tall, slim potted trees used as table dividers create a calm, modern atmosphere. Fine wines, with expert service, and highly creative cuisine complete the picture. There is an accent on all things French, with a Mediterranean influence, and owners Bruno Bernier and chef Stéphane Modat are not afraid to aim high. The creative master is famous for his popular "menu architecture," inspired by architect Pierre Bouvier, designer of this utopian space. This architectural meal, wines included, runs C$109. The specially mounted plates include an appetizer of coho smoked salmon, main dishes of lamb, foie gras, Roquefort panna cotta, and a parfait perfumed with maple syrup for dessert. L'Utopie serves lunch, 11 to 2 PM, and supper, 6 to 10 PM.
