The most interesting shops in Charlottetown are on Peake's Wharf, in Confederation Court Mall (off Queen Street), along Victoria Row (the section of Richmond Street between Queen and Great George streets), and on Water Street. There are also factory outlet stores along the Trans-Canada Highway at North River Causeway near the western entrance to the city, next to Cows Creamery, and the Charlottetown Mall, on the outskirts just north of the university.
This local chocolatier sells old-fashioned chocolates, peanut brittle, and assorted candy—all made on the premises. (For a double dose of local flavor, try chocolate-coated PEI potato chips.) Sweet treats for those who can't get enough of the Island's sweetest fictional orphan are available at this location year-round. Other outlets, open seasonally, are at Cows Creamery, in Avonlea Village, at Gateway Village in Borden-Carleton, and on the Cavendish Boardwalk.
Anne fans can buy memorabilia from this store, owned by an actual relative of author Lucy Maude Montgomery. Everything is carefully curated here to preserve the family legacy through licensed products only, from the classic straw hats with braids attached to dolls to ornaments and copies of the book. There are other branches at Cavendish and Park Corner.
Along with the expected array of local produce, artisanal cheeses, organic meats, craft beer, and tasty baked goods, you'll find a fine array of Island-made crafts and natural, organic skin-care products here. The market runs from 9 until 2 on Saturday year-round as well as on Wednesday 9 until 2, mid-June through early October.
This gallery has earned a name for quality Maritimes and Canadian art, including Inuit carvings and jewelry from the Cape Dorset region of Nunavut, and paintings by the owners, Brian Lorimer and Margaret Anderson.
The vegetable-based soaps sold here are handcrafted and scented with essential oils, and the production area is open to view so the aromas fill the store. The expanding inventory also includes sublime bath and body-care products, a pet-care line, and crafts by local artisans.
This shop carries its own line of chill-chasing knitted sweaters, along with fine locally sheared and spun alpaca and merino yarn, and a wide range of other Island-made products. They also run the Tartan Shop next door.
