Fodor's Review

Near-perfect acoustics and handsome, U-shape tiers have made Massey Hall a great place to enjoy music since 1894, when it opened with a performance of Handel's Messiah. It's always been a venerable place to catch big-time solo acts like Neil Young and Gilberto Gil, comedians, indie bands, and occasional dance troupes. However, this grand old venue is a bit cramped, and at last plans are under way to expand the interior, modernize the amenities, and scrub up the façade. The hall is anticipated to remain open throughout the renovations, but check the website for the latest on scheduled performances.
