Massey Hall
Massey Hall Review
Near-perfect acoustics and handsome, U-shape tiers have made Massey Hall a great place to enjoy music since 1894, when it opened with a performance of Handel's Messiah. It's always been cramped, and the 2,753 seats are not terribly comfortable, but this grand old venue remains a venerable place to catch big-time solo acts like Neil Young and Gilberto Gil, comedians, indie bands, and occasional dance troupes. Every December Massey Hall hosts a Sing-Along Messiah, where the audience is seated by voice part and joins the choir in singing Handel's masterpiece; tickets start at C$26 and the event usually sells out.
