You can't get much closer to Toronto's waterfront, and unobstructed Lake Ontario and verdant Toronto Islands vistas come standard. This small hotel has an appropriately maritime design, with deep-blue accents; plush seating trimmed in rich, full-grain woods; and the requisite brass embellishments. The full bank of windows at Commodore's Restaurant provides a spectacular panorama of the lake. The seafood specialties are some of the finest in the city: lobster and sweet-corn bisque, grilled Atlantic salmon, and pasta with scallops in dill cream sauce are delicious. A soft remodeling of the guest rooms was completed in the spring of 2006. Pros: good value for its location, easy access to Toronto Islands ferries and convention center, now entirely smoke-free. Cons: quiet and seems out of the way in winter and spring, some rooms still smell smoky and stale.
