TIFF Bell Lightbox
TIFF Bell Lightbox Review
A five-story architectural masterpiece in the city's center, this glass-paneled building houses the year-round headquarters of the internationally acclaimed, wildly popular Toronto International Film Festival. Throughout the year—except in September when TIFF fever paralyzes the city—visitors can attend film-related lectures, watch screenings, and enjoy smaller film festivals, including TIFF.kids, a celebration of children's film that takes place each April. A stellar educational program includes summer camps, ongoing workshops—how to produce a stop-motion movie, for example—and gallery exhibitions that highlight big-shot filmmakers such as Tim Burton and Federico Fellini; faculty and university students get free admission to special "higher learning" TIFF offerings (a limited number of tickets become available one hour before each event; check online for the full calendar). The TIFF Cinematheque, open to the public, plays world cinema classics and contemporary art house films all year. Hit the concession stand for gourmet treats far beyond the standard popcorn fare, or head to one of the two restaurants in the complex for the traditional dinner-and-a-movie pairing.
