Toronto Breweries and Brewpubs

Torontonians love their beer, which is evidenced by the plethora of craft breweries opening throughout the city. Each is worth visiting for a sip, nibble, and tour.

Amsterdam BrewHouse recently opened its doors in the summer of 2013 offering tours and tastings of its on-site brewery located in the heart of the Harbourfront. Locals swarm here in the summer for their phenomenal patio, which offers fantastic views of the lake. Tours and tastings weekdays at 2 and 6 pm and weekends at 12, 3 and 6.

Bar Volo is a classy, relaxed place for a beer on busy Yonge Street.

Beer Bistro has a long beer list and also a brew-inspired menu.

Bier Markt has an awe-inspiring keg room and a loyal after-five clientele.

Bellwoods Brewery is a restaurant, bar, and on-site brewery located on Ossington Avenue in the heart of the city’s hipster West End. Beer fans line up for a chance to plop themselves into coveted street-side patio seats. The building is petite so it’s likely you’ll see the brewmaster preparing his next batch while you sip and nibble your way through their menu.

Mill Street Brew Pub, in the Distillery District, makes Ontario’s only certified organic lager and seasonal Helles Bock. It is open for sampling daily, with free tours on weekends at 3 pm and weekends at 3 and 5. A brewpub is on-site.

Mill Street Beer Hall is a recently launched concept by the team at Mill Street that is attached to their much-loved Brew Pub. Freshly brewed beer from the brewpub is piped across the walls and served up at the bar. The center of the dining room features an imported copper still that brews a rare trio of Bierchnaps (Tankhouse, Framboise, and Coffee Porter).

Steam Whistle Brewery, in the Harbourfront, brews an authentically crafted pilsner and offers tours of its historic premises Monday–Thursday 1–5, Friday and Saturday noon–5, and Sunday noon–4. A great spot to pop by before or after a Blue Jays Game at the Rogers Centre. Their annual Oktoberfest party is a hoot.
