White River

White River

This town is marked by a huge thermometer indicating 22°C (72°F) below zero and a sign that advises: "White River—coldest place in Canada." But it has another claim to fame as the actual birthplace of the bear cub that went to England to become immortalized as Winnie-the-Pooh in the children's stories by A. A. Milne. A 25-foot-tall statue honors Pooh, and each August the town holds a three-day Winnie's Hometown Festival, with parades, street dances, and a community barbecue.
