Nicknamed Forest City, quiet and provincial London has more than 50,000 trees and 1,500 acres of parks. London is notable as one of the country's oldest cities. More than 200 years ago British officer John Graves Simcoe was scouting a location to establish a capital for Upper Canada. Apparently he liked this densely forested point at the bend of a river in what is now the city's downtown core. Although London eventually lost out to Toronto, the groundwork was laid for a flourishing city.
