Reservations are strongly recommended everywhere in summer, and most importantly in Ottawa, Toronto, and Niagara Falls. The small inns of Stratford and Niagara-on-the-Lake fill up during the summer cultural festivals here, as well. Prices are comparable to those in the States—although in Canadian dollars. Taxes are seldom included in quoted prices, but rates sometimes include food, especially in areas such as Muskoka and Haliburton, where many resorts offer meal plans.

Most major cities have bed-and-breakfast associations. Prices vary according to the location and facilities but are comparable to those found south of the border. All types of accommodations tend to be more expensive in tourist venues. In Niagara Falls, for example, hotel and motel rates are determined by proximity to the famous waterfall.
