Air Travel

Halifax's Stanfield International Airport is Atlantic Canada’s largest airport, with flights from the United States via New York, Boston, Newark, Chicago, and Philadelphia (plus Detroit and Atlanta in season), and from major European cities via London and Glasgow in the United Kingdom, Frankfurt in Germany, and Keflavik in Iceland. Ground transportation into Halifax takes from 30 to 40 minutes. Limousine and taxi services, as well as car rentals, are available on-site. MetroTransit Bus 320 serves the airport every 30 minutes at peak time, otherwise hourly; the fare is C$3.50. Maritime Bus operates a shuttle service from the airport to downtown Halifax, including Dalhousie and St. Mary’s universities and hotels in Halifax and Dartmouth (fare C$22 one-way, C$40 round-trip) and from other destinations in Atlantic Canada. Regular taxi fares into Halifax are C$63 each way. If you book ahead with A Sunshine Share-A-Cab, the fare is around C$32, depending on your time of arrival, but you must share your cab with another passenger; call ahead, before 8 pm, to book your appointment.

Visitors proceeding on to other Nova Scotian destinations can take buses to the Annapolis Valley and shuttles to Cape Breton. Cape Breton–bound travelers short on time can also fly into Sydney’s airport.
